The Deputy Director – Engineering oversees the strategic direction and operational success of the Engineering Team at South Platte Renew (SPR), contributing as a key member of the SPR executive leadership team. Reporting to the SPR Director, the Deputy Director - Engineering provides direction and guidance for the wastewater treatment process, capital improvement program (CIP), electrical instrumentation & controls (EI&C), construction management, long-range planning, asset management, pilot and research center (PARC), renewable natural gas (RNG) program, and other engineering department functions. This position is critical in advancing SPR’s goals through effective administration, resource allocation, fiduciary responsibility, and innovation across the engineering disciplines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Executive Leadership Team Duties & Responsibilities
- Effectively collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team to shape, align, and execute organizational strategy.
- Present business cases to Supervisory Committee and to City Council to secure support for key initiatives.
- Prepares annual budget including SPR’s CIP, forecasting costs, and upholding SPR’s procurement policies and best practices.
- Build and maintain relationships with the City of Englewood, City of Littleton, and internal/external stakeholders including but not limited to consultants, contractors, vendors, universities, and other utilities.
- Drive continuous improvement across the organization and SPR divisions.
- Empower and develop staff through innovation, competency development, and training programs.
Essential Business Group Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for directing all functions of the Engineering Team including the CIP, master planning, construction management/inspections, EI&C, Asset Management, PARC Program, Energy Program, RNG Pipeline Injection Program, and other engineering functions. Each listed element to be aligned with the vision, mission and values of the City of Englewood and the City of Littleton. Supervises, coaches and mentors the Engineering staff in the development, implementation and administration of related programs.
- Provide strategic analysis and guidance on wastewater-related issues, ensuring effective communication with SPR staff across divisions.
- Supervise and manage assigned staff, including performance evaluations, training, competency development and appropriate resource allocation.
- Build community partnerships including but not limited to water/wastewater professional organizations, consultants, contractors, vendors, universities, state regulatory agencies, and other utilities.
- Lead large-scale capital projects for wastewater services, coordinating with consultants, contractors, and external agencies.
- Lead the programmatic development and implementation for asset management, analytical probes, energy, RNG, pilot and research, and project management.
- Oversee engineering and construction programs, including asset management, master planning, and project management.

QUALIFICATIONS
Deputy Director - Engineering
Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related engineering field. Formal leadership and business administration training desired.
- Minimum of 10 years’ increasingly responsible experience in Program Management with diverse stakeholder groups; Minimum of 2 years’ of supervisory experience.
- State of Colorado Professional Engineers License, Formal Project or Program Management Certifications or training.
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in engineering, business administration, or public administration, and knowledge of current or developing technologies in wastewater treatment. Previous experience in long-range planning of utility systems and administration of utility services.

SALARY RANGE
$144,000 - $216,000/Annual Rate
