POSITION SUMMARY
The Wastewater Operator is an integral part of the operations and maintenance of the treatment facility, and is responsible for the effective treatment of water before it is returned to the South Platte River. Wastewater operators operate valves, motors, performs water quality sampling and analysis, and performs light troubleshooting of mechanical equipment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Operations Supervisor
Direct Reports: None
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for monitoring, interpreting and troubleshooting wastewater activities as needed, including SCADA monitoring, safety, water quality sampling and monitoring, lab analysis, instrument verification and calibration, monitoring and maintaining equipment. B and C operators can function independently and take responsibility of entire process areas or portions of the treatment plant during a shift.
Both classifications carry out delegated duties in accordance to SPR’s Written Operating Plan, with B operators being capable of performing a broader range of decision making without the need for consulting supervisors or the Operator in Responsible Charge.

Education, License, Certification, and Work Experience:
Wastewater Plant Operator C
- Colorado Wastewater “C” Certification, or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 3 months.
- 1 years’ experience in the operation of a municipal wastewater treatment facility, or 6 months as a “D” operator.
Wastewater Plant Operator B
- Colorado Wastewater “B” Certification, or ability to obtain through reciprocity within 3 months.
- 2 years’ experience in the operation of a municipal wastewater treatment facility, or 6 months as a “C” operator.
*An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires extensive sitting, walking, carrying, lifting, kneeling, bending, reaching, and squatting. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds. Major activities are performed on level, slippery, sloping, unstable and uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, heights, temperature swings, constant noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, fumes, odors, & chemicals. Work is performed in an office, outside, and in an industrial environment.
SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: This position is subject to shift work. Occasional after hours on-call, nights, weekends, or holiday work may be required.

HOURLY RATE AND BONUS
Wastewater Plant Operator B - $28.49 - $42.74/Hourly Rate
Wastewater Plant Operator C - $25.21 - $37.82/Hourly Rate
Signing bonuses are available for qualified candidates.
Annual certification bonuses are awarded for maintaining Colorado Wastewater Treatment Certification:
Operator D - $500/year
Operator C - $1,000/year
Operator B - $2,000/year
Operator A - $3,000/year
