What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Marshal position at City of Ennis?
Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, perform and oversee inspections; arson, and hazard investigations; and develop, implement, and educate the community on fire prevention and safety. Serves as coordinator and administrator of fire-prevention, safety education programs, and first aid procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.
Enforces adopted fire code and State laws to ensure public safety; maintains a working knowledge of NFPA 921, Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations. Investigates complaints and answers questions related to fire hazards and fire code requirements and local fire codes. Reviews plans of new buildings, proposed development plats, and site plans for fire code compliance, and remedies conditions that may endanger life or property. Reviews additions and revisions made to national, state, and local fire codes. Inspects mercantile, industrial, office, hospital, convalescent, educational, and assembly occupies to detect and correct fire hazards and deviations from code requirements. Initiates action against fire code and fire ordinance violators. Coordinates with building officials and insurance agencies in the prevention and investigation of fires. Coordinates all activities of Arson Task Force as agency administrator; responsible for records and training for agency members; interviews or interrogates individuals; takes statements or testimony; prepares reports including charts and graphs. Investigates cases of known and suspected arson to determine the origin, cause, and circumstances of the fire; takes photographs and obtains evidence; files incident findings with the district attorney’s office; arrests individuals when necessary and testifies in court as needed. Conducts fire drills for educational and institutional occupancies; keeps records of fires, fire drills, inspections, fire deaths and injuries, property losses, and inventory; prepares and submits reports to local and state organizations and prepares other reports as required. Ensures that all department programs and procedures maintain compliance with City, State and Federal laws and regulations. Surveys, develops and coordinates community risk reduction initiatives. Coordinates and manages the department’s pre-incident survey program. Maintains a variety of records, files, and maps related to prevention and public safety activity programs and fire loss trends. Assumes management responsibility for all activities associated with the Fire Marshal’s office, community relations, firefighter health and safety, Internal Affairs and regulatory agency compliance. Reviews all injury incidents and reports and recommends procedure and/or policy changes.
Investigate fires to determine cause and damage; maintain records of fire losses, investigations, and fire deaths and injuries.Assists other departments in code enforcement and assists other fire department personnel in coordinating their activities. Inspects and reports maintenance needs for assigned departmental vehicle and equipment. Ability to arrive to work on time and must maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. Performs other duties as assigned.

A Valid Class B Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
TCOLE Texas Peace Officer certification, TCFP Advanced Firefighter certification, TCFP Advanced Arson Investigator certification, TCFP Advanced Fire Inspector certification, TCFP Plans Examiner certification, TCFP Instructor II certification, TCFP Incident Safety Officer certification, and Emergency Medical Technician certification or higher.
Salary : $122,500 - $151,642
