What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learn to Skate Hockey Instructor position at City of Evanston?
- Teach basic skating skills, including balance, forward and backward skating, stopping, and turning, with an emphasis on hockey-specific techniques.
- Provide instruction to individuals of all ages and skill levels, primarily focusing on young beginners.
- Create a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment.
- Demonstrate proper skating techniques and provide hands-on guidance.
- Adapt lessons to accommodate different skill levels and learning styles.
- Ensure participants follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate equipment.
- Communicate with parents and program coordinators about student progress.
- Assist with on-ice activities, warm-ups, and skill development drills.
- Help maintain the ice surface and ensure equipment is properly set up.
- Promote a love for skating and hockey through fun, engaging instruction.
- Strong skating ability and knowledge of fundamental hockey skating techniques.
- Previous coaching, teaching, or playing experience preferred.
- Experience working with children in a teaching or coaching capacity.
- USA Hockey or Learn to Skate USA coaching certifications (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with participants and parents.
- Patient, enthusiastic, and passionate about teaching hockey skating skills.
- Part-time, evenings and weekends depending on class schedules.
- Compensation based on experience and qualifications.
