What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building/Combination Inspector position at City of Fairfax?
Graduation from high school/GED plus three to five years of experience in the building trades as a contractor, foreman, or inspector; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides a comprehensive knowledge of the approved materials, methods, and techniques used in building construction.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of building and fire regulations and associated laws.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
The following certifications from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) are required within one year of employment: Core module, Combination Residential Inspector, and Combination Commercial Inspector. Must possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
The position may be under-filled at the building inspector classification with the requirement of obtaining the certifications for combination building inspector within two years.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime and callbacks may be required.
Salary range will depend on the experience and qualifications of the individual selected. The combination building inspector position is considered the minimum inspector classification. Promotion to senior building inspector and above may be achieved after completion of the prerequisites for those classifications

Combination Inspector; City Grade 116: $64,860-$103,595
