What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Worker II/Driver-Asphalt position at City of Fairfax?
This is responsible work in the operation of a variety of trucks, especially the heavy-duty, more complex vehicles used for construction purposes.
Work involves, primarily, the operation and care of tandem trucks or the double-axle vehicles used in street work. Work also may involve the operation and care of a variety of other less complicated vehicles and a variety of semiskilled and general laboring work. Work is performed under the general supervision of a crew leader and is reviewed through observation and daily reports.Operates and care for tandem trucks or the double-axle vehicles used in street work. Operates a variety of other less complicated vehicles.
Inspects truck to ensure proper operation and servicing; reports safety violations and repair needs to superior; performs routine maintenance and servicing of assigned vehicle.
Hauls construction materials to and from job sites; loads and unloads materials.
Conducts a variety of semi-skilled and general laboring tasks related to the work of the crew to which assigned during periods and at intervals when not actually engaged in truck driving or equipment operation.
Operates backhoe, loader, tamper, or other types of equipment when required.
Maintains safety regulations and work standards in operation of vehicles and equipment.
May be required to perform snow removal duties.
Performs related work as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned vehicles.
Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in vehicle operation.
Ability to read maps.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Skill in driving assigned vehicles.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and tanker endorsement with a good driving record.
