What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor (Elementary and Middle Grades Day Camps) position at City of Fairfax?
This position involves organizing and supervising children (ages 5-12) in a summer day camp setting. Activities include arts and crafts, music and dance, sports and games, special events, field trips, and more. Cleaning and sanitizing duties are also required. Staff must be available to work for all six weeks of the camp, with counselors working 40 hours per week. Camp dates are from June 23 to August 1.
Plan and implement age appropriate activities that engage and entertain elementary-aged children.
Create a safe and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork, cooperation, and respect.
Assist with the setup and cleanup of daily activities and ensure a clean, organized camp space.
Actively participate in all camp events, including field trips, water park visits, themed days, dodgeball, bowling, movies, and more.
Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp staff to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all campers.
Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on their child’s participation and camp activities.
Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school or equivalent.

Additional Desirable Qualification:
Previous experience in recreation programs, summer camps, or childcare is preferred.
Successful candidates must pass a background check.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Tuberculosis (TB) screening required for employment.
Mandatory training will take place from June 16th to June 20th.
