SUMMARY OF POSITION
These positions include all related labor and equipment operation involved in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the city streets in order to provide a safe and non-obstructed traffic flow.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (Essential functions including the following and the Physical Requirements listed below):
• Maintain City right-of-ways to include grass and weed cutting, tree and limb removal, clearing ditches of leaves and debris
• Storm damage removal and clearing of streets
• Other tasks that may be assigned by supervisor
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Driving record acceptable to the City of Fairview Heights
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Knowledge of street locations
• Ability to operate various types of grass and weed cutting equipment
• Ability to perform general construction and maintenance activities related to City streets
• Ability to speak, hear, write and communicate effectively, clearly and efficiently
• Ability to lift, squat, and bend to gather items from storage units
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to make on-site inspections, including crawling into small areas, walking through mud, water, and other elements
• Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance
• Ability to move freely and to be mobile enough to do field work
• Ability to use equipment such as hammers, power tools, and electrical equipment
• Ability to move, bend, squat, lift, carry, and stretch freely with little to no discomfort
• Ability to stand and perform manual labor for long periods of time under adverse weathers conditions
• Ability to climb on/off machinery such as tractor or lawn mower
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment is normally those encountered by outside weather conditions. It consists of manual labor such as lifting and shoveling. The employee may be exposed to paint, calcium chloride, asphalt, concrete, and other chemicals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
• Must be physically able to frequently grasp, grip, pull, push, twist, squat, bend at the waist, lift overhead
• Ability to crawl into small areas, walk through mud and water
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis
