Summary Objective
The purpose of this position is to maintain the integrity and safety of buildings, including the plumbing, electrical, lighting, roofing, and other equipment located at all city buildings.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.
Essential Functions
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class, as necessary.
- Performs maintenance and repair work on City buildings. Facilities and structures.
- Performs light carpentry work, painting, office furniture repair, drywall repair, repair light fixtures, replace light bulbs, replace ceiling tiles, repair/replace carpet and flooring tiles, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (mechanical). electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Operates various types of hand tools, power equipment, and machinery in the performance of varied skilled trade work.
- Inspects and maintains playground equipment and spray park, checks, and maintains chlorine levels, performs equipment safety inspections.
- Inspects City Buildings for safety issues.
- Provides direction to less experienced personnel.
- Reports any safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Meets with vendors and contractors and oversees work being completed based on specifications at City Buildings.
- Operates a city vehicle in the performance of duties.
- Responds to and participates in emergency calls.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- 3 years experience in carpentry, heating, plumbing, or electrical work.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing, and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
- Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
