What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Support Technician- Environmental Services position at City of Federal Way?
NOTE: This is a temporary, part-time position with no benefits. Initial employment period will extend through October 2025. An extension of employment is possible based on performance and program needs. Work hours may vary from 8-20 hours/week. This position supports education and outreach events, so candidates must be available for recurring Saturday and evening events.
Working under the guidance of the Public Education and Outreach team in the Public Works Department – Environmental Services Division, this position will support outreach efforts and perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred start date is June 2, 2025.

- Effectively communicating with diverse audiences.
- Provide support for setting up, staffing, and then taking down displays at events. Distribute promotional items at events. Perform various tasks including: event promotion and operation, and tracking event participation.
- Provide education, information, and technical assistance at public events about correct garbage, recycling, and compost practices.
- Operate a motor vehicle, and physically load and unload event supplies, tables, canopies, etc.
- Becoming familiar with “core topics” including: water quality, pollution prevention, recycling, and composting.
- Operate office equipment (phone, computer, copier and printer). Maintain accurate and orderly files, record data accurately, and save digital information in specified subdirectories.
- Provide excellent customer service to constituents while enthusiastically representing the City of Federal Way.
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in general community outreach (community events, promotional materials, social media) is preferred but not necessary.
- Bilingual fluency is desirable.
- Must have valid WA Driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Must be able to pass a national criminal background check.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
- Correct English usage, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Basic knowledge of one or more “core topics” (water quality, pollution prevention, recycling, and/or composting) is preferred.
