Job Summary:
The Nuisance Abatement Worker is responsible for enforcing city code compliance by performing nuisance abatement activities on properties that have been cited for violations and not remedied by the property owner. This includes mowing overgrown lots, securing abandoned properties, removing illegally dumped debris, and maintaining properties to city standards. This position plays a vital role in keeping the community clean and safe.
Key Responsibilities:
Property Maintenance: Mow and maintain vacant lots, including those that have been cited by Code Enforcement for excessive vegetation or neglect.
Securing Structures: Board up abandoned or unsafe buildings to prevent unauthorized access and safety hazards.
Debris Removal: Collect and dispose of illegally dumped trash, furniture, and other waste materials from both public and private properties.
Minor Repairs: Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as securing fences, clearing walkways, and addressing other safety concerns.
Code Compliance Assistance: Work closely with Code Enforcement to ensure that properties in violation are brought into compliance.
Equipment Operation: Safely operate commercial mowers, weed trimmers, chainsaws, and other commercial maintenance tools necessary for abatement work.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including locations serviced, tasks completed, and materials used.
Take photos and videos of properties before and after abatement work to document compliance and job completion.
Public Interaction: Respond professionally to inquiries from residents and property owners regarding nuisance abatement activities.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Previous experience in landscaping, property maintenance, or code enforcement support preferred.
Skills:
Ability to safely operate commercial mowers and other power tools and landscaping equipment.
Basic knowledge of city property maintenance codes and regulations.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Licenses: Valid Missouri driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 100 lbs or more , with or without reasonable accommodation.
Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
Ability to walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
Ability to operate and load/unload commercial equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, and debris removal tools.
Work Environment:
Work is conducted primarily outdoors on both public and private properties that have been cited for nuisance violations.
May involve exposure to hazardous materials or unsafe structures; proper safety gear and precautions will be provided.
