Description:
The City of Fishers AgriPark is seeking a dedicated and motivated Agriculture Coordinator to oversee and actively participate in the daily operations of our existing farm while playing a key role in the expansion of a second AgriPark location. This hands-on role involves managing crop production, livestock care, and farm maintenance while supervising part-time staff and volunteers. Additionally, the Agriculture Coordinator will contribute to the planning, development, and operational setup of the second location to support the AgriPark mission of education, innovation, and community engagement.
Example of Duties:
- Perform hands-on agricultural tasks such as planting, weeding, harvesting, watering, and general farm maintenance.
- Oversee care for livestock, including feeding, monitoring health, and maintaining clean and safe living conditions.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
- Support the development and implementation of operational practices for the second AgriPark location, ensuring alignment with the existing farm's standards.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise part-time staff, seasonal workers, and volunteers at both AgriPark locations.
- Provide leadership and guidance to ensure team members complete tasks effectively and safely.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment to motivate and retain staff.
- Work with the management team to plan and execute seasonal crop schedules and livestock management strategies.
- Monitor and report on the progress of farm operations, including yields, staffing needs, and operational challenges.
- Assist in planning and executing the expansion of the second AgriPark location, including construction, staffing, and operational readiness.
- Coordinate daily and weekly task assignments for part-time staff and volunteers to meet operational goals.
- Assist with educational and community events hosted at both AgriPark locations, showcasing farm operations and practices.
- Interact with visitors, answering questions about agricultural practices and the mission of Fishers AgriPark.
- Support the development of educational programming and visitor experiences at the second AgriPark location.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required. Bachelors degree in agriculture or a related field is a plus;
- Proven experience in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field, with a strong preference for candidates with 3 - 5 years of hands-on farming experience required;
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate part-time staff, seasonal workers, and volunteers required;
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments required;
- Physical stamina and ability to perform outdoor, labor-intensive tasks in various weather conditions required;
- Proficiency with basic farm equipment and tools required;
- Mechanical aptitude is a plus;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required;
- Valid IN Drivers License and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required;
- Must have flexibility with scheduling, including occasional required weekend or evening work.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in sustainable farming practices;
- Knowledge of livestock care and maintenance;
- Familiarity with community engagement or educational programming in an agricultural setting;
- Experience with expansion or startup agricultural projects.
Work Environment:
This is a hands-on role that requires working outdoors in all weather conditions at both AgriPark locations. The position involves frequent lifting, bending, and manual labor.
