Join our team of dynamic City of Fishers Parks staff this summer by working as a Head Lifeguard at the Geist Waterfront Park. The purpose of this position is to provide an exciting, fun, and safe environment to all residents visiting the park. A Head Lifeguard is responsible for everyday operational tasks at the Geist Waterfront Park. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing a safe environment to residents and visitors by responding to emergencies, maintaining a clean park, and staying up to date on trainings and certifications in addition to training, monitoring, scheduling, and supervising Lifeguards. *Must be 18 years old to be a Head Lifeguard. Start dates for Head Lifeguards will begin in March so staff can assist with training incoming Lifeguards (We offer start date flexibility based on school schedule). Shifts are typically a minimum of 5 hours long between the hours of 8am - 7:30pm. More shifts are offered to those with flexibility in their schedules.
Examples of Duties:
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers and waterfront area
- Display rescue ready behavior at all times while on duty
- Exhibit professional behavior at all times while on duty
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until EMS arrive
- Assists in implementing Emergency Action Plans
- Communicate effectively with other guards, park staff, supervisors, and other in swimming areas
- Lead service trainings
- Document and report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately
- Ensure all hazardous conditions are reported immediately
- Lifeguard Supervision/scheduling
- Train and monitor lifeguards
- Determine and implement appropriate Lifeguard rotation and zone coverage
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Current Lifeguard Certification including First Aid, CPR/AED, and Emergency Oxygen or ability to attend Lifeguard Certification training through City of Fishers;
- Prior Lifeguard experience required;
- Ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor Certification;
- Supervisory skills including training and supervising aquatic staff required;
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends;
- This role is outside and will occur in various weather conditions.
