The City is seeking to fill a Summer Internship for Construction Inspection in the Engineering Department. As an intern, you will gain valuable on-the-job experience in local government operations with involvement in City infrastructure projects. Interns will be challenged to think independently and will be given unique and interesting job assignments.
Examples of Duties
- Assist with overall management on capital infrastructure improvement projects.
- Gain knowledge in the review, approval and permitting process of new residential and commercial development.
- Learn how to communicate with people from all walks of life, including our citizens, local engineers, construction contractors, utility personnel, and members of other City departments such as Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Development, Fire and Police.
- Other duties may include public involvement, plan review, long-range program development and data collection, and infrastructure inspection.
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate level engineering program, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or closely related discipline;
- Must have an active driver's license and have 3 years experience as a licensed driver not counting learning permit time, as well as meet requirements to be insured to drive a city vehicle;
- Basic knowledge of the City of Fishers and/or city government is a plus, but not required;
- Basic math skills required;
- Ability to use a variety of Microsoft office products required;
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to handle multiple assignments required;
- Computer skills including AutoCAD and/or Microstation, Arcview are also a plus;
- This position will likely include office work and outside field work;
- Work hours expected are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm with potential opportunity for overtime depending on business needs.
