The City of Fishers is seeking a full-time Senior Laborer for the Parks Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works. Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you take pride in a job well done? The Department of Public Works (DPW) Parks Maintenance Laborer position is an integral part of a team that helps make the City of Fishers a vibrant community. You can make a difference in many areas of the community by working with other dedicated professionals on maintenance and upkeep of over 1300 acres of parks and school grounds that include: 120 state of the art baseball/softball fields and athletic fields; more than 500 acres of common area; and some of the most innovative playgrounds and passive parks in the state. This position also serves a key role in special community events (concerts, 5K runs, Spark!Fishers, and other events).
Examples of Duties:
- Attend leadership training workshops
- Performing managerial tasks when foreman is out-I.E. doing recaps, taking care of administrative tasks/meet with superintendents/assistant director, handling safety concerns with employees, filling out chemical sheets
- Obtain a RT spray license to assist foreman with the maintenance of beds and fields
- Assist foreman in motivating seasonal employees and laborers
- Assisting foreman with keeping employees on task
- Communicating with foreman on updates involving daily and weekly tasks
- Book labor to work orders at the end of the day
- Making sure laborers are booking labor to work orders assigned to them
- Assisting foreman with the proper training of seasonal employees and laborers to ensure employees perform tasks properly and safely
- Assist foreman with making sure employees have proper PPE, and are working safely
- Assume roll of crew leader in case of Foreman absence
- Be available to work your scheduled weekend shifts, snow shifts, and on-call shifts
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred;
- Landscaping and/or grounds maintenance experience;
- Valid Driver's License required and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle;
- Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays based on business needs and weather events;
- Must be able to obtain a RT spray license to assist foreman with the maintenance of beds and fields;
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs;
- Ability to climb ladders and maintain balance;
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of people;
- Ability to work independently;
- Ability to handle several projects at the same time.
Salary : $29
