About the Role:
Under general direction of the Building and Grounds Supervisor, performs diversified tasks necessary to keep City buildings clean. Duties include general custodial tasks such as restroom facilities maintenance, rubbish removal, vacuuming, dusting, and snow removal of sidewalks. Decisions within the area of responsibility are made in consultation with the Building and Grounds Supervisor. Supervision received is general and overall work plans are discussed with periodic review of progress.
This position will remain open until filled.
- Clean City Hall building thoroughly. Clean all offices, lobbies, hallways, entrances, conference rooms, lavatories, sinks and break rooms.
- Empty trash containers, replace liners as needed and take all trash to dumpster. Place recyclables in appropriate bins. Replenish bathroom tissue and paper towels.
- Dust counter tops, desk tops, window sills, file cabinets, and tables.
- Vacuum, dust mop, or wet mop floors as appropriate. Shampoo carpets according to the maintenance schedule.
- Report maintenance problems to building maintenance worker.
- Check email for any work orders.
- Ensure all lights are off and all doors are locked as appropriate.
- Plan cleaning tasks around meetings and activities in progress.
- Keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice. Salt when necessary.
- Wash inside panes of windows
- Assist with set-up and tear-down of meeting rooms.
- Assist with office and cubicle moves.
- Assist in maintaining City grounds.
- Serve as backup custodian for other areas as needed.

- High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
- One year custodial experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver's License at time of appointment and maintain during entire course of employment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternative solutions and make sound judgments.
- Knowledge of a variety of custodial equipment and its uses.
- Knowledge of custodial cleaning supplies and their uses.
- Ability to work in an efficient and safe manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City elected and appointed officials, employees, and the general public.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse individuals and groups.
- Ability to maintain adequate attendance.
- Ability to attend meetings and other functions during the evening and/or on weekends.
