What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Shop Helper Equipment Operator position at City of Florence, Alabama?
JOB
Works under the direction of the Sign Shop Foreman painting, traffic control areas, fabricating, installing and maintaining traffic control signs in accordance with the Alabama Traffic Control Manual.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs the construction, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, street. signs/markers in accordance with the Alabama Traffic Control Manual.Repairs and replaces traffic control signs.Maintains area around traffic signs and blind comers.Paints traffic control areas: center lines, divider lines, parking spaces, crosswalks, curbs, etc.Installs and removes variance, ordinance and other signs on a timely basis.Installs and repairs parking meter posts.Insures that daily preventive maintenance is performed on vehicles and equipment.May assist in purchasing and recording acquisition of materials and supplies for sign shop.Works flexible schedules and may be called out after hours in emergency situations.May assist in maintaining routine records: inventory, work orders, accident reports, and other reports as required.This department may require employee to perform a variety of other assigned duties.Shifts may vary according to needs of city.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of Street Department rules and regulations.Knowledge of City of Florence streets.Knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations.Knowledge of safety rules and regulations that apply to working in and around vehicles and equipment.Working knowledge of rules, codes and other regulation that govern installation and maintenance of traffic control areas, street signs/markers, etc.Working knowledge of the Alabama Traffic Control Manual.Knowledge of Omega software and Graphtec vinyl cutter.Ability to help design various signs for other departments and cities.Ability to follow instructions and get along with customers and other city personnel.Ability to install and maintain traffic control signs, street signs/markers, and other signs as may be required.Ability to complete jobs in a timely, safe, and orderly manner.Knowledge of equipment used by Street Department.Ability to recognize and eliminate safety hazards.Ability to schedule daily work from oral or written work orders.Ability to order materials and keep records on labor and equipment used by project.Ability to prepare required reports.Ability to read, write and understand material related position.Ability to operate various equipment and machinery related to job.Physical Demands: Ability to work with exposure to heat, cold, dampness, fumes and other disagreeable work conditions.Ability to stoop, bend, climb, and lift on a regular basis up to 50 pounds (more on occasion).Ability of work in and around moving traffic.Ability to crawl in and out of manholes, pipes and ditches when required.Subject to be called out after normal working hours.Equipment Used: Omega software Graphtec vinyl cutterVarious tools associated with making and installing signs.For similar job postings, applications may be used for up to ninety (90) days.The City of Florence, Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
