OVERVIEW
The City of Florence is the eighth largest city in Kentucky with about 33,000 residents and is in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region, just 10 minutes south of downtown Cincinnati. Florence is a full-service community offering police, fire, paramedic, water, sewer, public services, recreation, and administrative support services. We’re currently seeking a Community Services Coordinator to join our growing team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Under the general supervision of the City Coordinator, this position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the City’s events and recreational programs. This position is responsible for the supervision of the Community Services Administrator. Completes additional work as assigned.
Responsibilities Include:
- Plans, coordinates, and schedules City recreational activities, events, and programs.
- Reviews and evaluates program areas. Implements changes and new programs to meet recreational needs of the community.
- Coordinates and executes City sponsored functions as requested.
- Prepares for public events such as special meetings, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, etc.
- Prepares monthly activities report.
- Accurately maintains necessary documents regarding the operation of recreational activities and events.
- Works with outside agencies as liaison.
- Manages special event permit requests.
- Oversees the general operation of the City rental facilities.
- Evaluates and implements necessary adjustments in rental policy and procedure.
- Administrates the rental scheduling software.
- Plans for and recommends the purchase of necessary supplies and equipment pertaining to rental activities, community events, and recreational activities.
- Promotes recreational programs, events, and rental facilities through advertisements, flyers, social media, etc.
- Represents the City to outside organizations and serves on various boards and committees as determined beneficial.
- Honor Run/Renegades liaison.
- Responds to citizen complaints and inquiries.
- Performs research, prepares reports; conducts special projects as assigned by the City Coordinator.
- Supervises the duties of the Community Services Administrator
- Completes assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time.
- Works in a safe manner, observing all safety rules, and poses no significant risk to the health and safety of others.
- Responsible for interpreting and managing contracts for outside vendors.
- May be called in at any time for unscheduled or emergency work activities.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Public Administration, Recreation Administration, or related field.
- Five years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation management or any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively perform the duties of the position.
- Must possess extensive knowledge of the contents and provisions of the City Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- Must have extensive knowledge of recreation techniques and methods, and how to apply them to all phases of community recreation and administration.
- Must possess extensive knowledge of the contents and provisions of the City Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- Must have extensive knowledge of recreation techniques and methods, and how to apply them to all phases of community recreation and administration.
- Must have extensive knowledge of event techniques and methods, and how to apply them to all phases of event execution and administration.
- Must have knowledge of budget and financial principles.
- Must have ability to develop and implement high level event execution.
- Must be highly proficient with social media platforms.
- Must have ability to develop and implement well-rounded recreational programs.
- Must have ability to manage outside vendors.
- Must have ability to safely operate and maintain all departmental equipment, and to train others in same.
- Must have ability to prepare written reports accurately.
- Must have ability to effectively promote recreational programs.
- Must have ability to effectively promote rental facility programs.
- Must have ability to deal courteously with the general public.
- Must have some knowledge of local government operations.
- Must have broad knowledge of contemporary office practices, procedures and equipment.
- Must be skilled in business math, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Must be skilled in using modern computing systems and department specific applications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess considerable knowledge of first aid and appropriate safety measures pertinent to the Department’s operations.
- Must be bondable.
- Must possess valid driver's license and remain insurable to operate City vehicles.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Must have ability to ambulate over rugged terrain and ascend/descend ladders, to operate a vehicle, and to withstand working outside in all extreme weather conditions.
- Must have the ability to operate standard office equipment including copier, computer, fax machine, etc., and to reach into file drawers in standard four-drawer filing cabinets.
- Must have ability to read and write reports, correspondence, instructions, etc.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other individuals in person, and over a telephone and/or radio.
- Must have freedom from mental limitations which would interfere with performance of duties as described herein.
