The City of Folsom's Parks and Recreation Departmen t is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Recreation Specialist - Senior Care Attendant to support the Community & Cultural Services Division.

Under direct or general supervision of the Senior Services Coordinator, this part-time position is responsible for assisting with the Senior Center's activities, maintaining excellent customer service with the public, and providing general support to the Senior Services Coordinator.

Location

Folsom City Senior & Arts Center, 48 Natoma St. for facilitating programming for the Senior Lounge.

Schedule

  • Schedule : 4-5 hours a day, less than 20 hour per week within Monday - Friday, 8 : 30am - 4 : 30pm
  • Additional hours may be assigned as needed for outreach activities, training, and other specific activities
  • Duration : position is ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget.

Pay & Benefits

  • Non-exempt, salary : $18.00 - $23.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Temporary, Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class.
  • Note : Unfortunately current active CalPERS members are ineligible for employment with part-time positions.

    Examples of Essential Duties

    NOTE : Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Support Senior Lounge with weekly programs such as Bingo, Better Balance, Off Key, Singers, gaming groups and occasional events.
  • Support Senior Services Coordinator with occasional tours for new participants, intake paperwork, running class rosters, waivers and general Rec Trac registration system support.
  • Uphold Senior Lounge Standards for Participation to create a safe, positive and inclusive environment in the Lounge.
  • Maintain Senior Lounge Coffee Station, facility cleanliness and help with facility transitions / set ups. Assist with occasional front counter support.
  • Assist in fostering relationships with community partners, help procure donations for events and programs.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Employment Standards

    Knowledge of :

  • Practices and methods of public relations and customer service; techniques and principles of effective interpersonal communication.
  • Practices of supervising and training program volunteers.
  • Basic methodology of organizing groups, programs, and services in a recreational setting.
  • Standard office practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment, basic record-keeping, arithmetic, and computer applications related to the work.
  • Safety principles and practices, including basic first aid and adult and / or child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods.
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socioeconomic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the City in contacts with the public.
  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.
  • Ability to :

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, positive energy, and maturity.
  • Communicate well orally and in writing; be organized, self-motivated, prioritize and pace duties and tasks
  • Follow oral and written directions; establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education :

    High school diploma or G.E.D., some college preferred.

    Qualifications :

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire date.
  • Previous experience working with seniors.
  • License, Certificate, Registration Requirements :

    Some positions may require possession of, or the ability to obtain and retain, a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Current CPR / First Aid certification or ability to obtain within the first 30 days.
  • P hysical Requirements :

    Frequent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movement on a continuous basis. Frequent public and coworker contact, occasional working alone.

    Schedule is limited to no more than 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary, hourly positions are not eligible for benefits.
