What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parking Enforcement Shift Coordinator position at City of Fort Lauderdale, FL?
In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Provides direction to parking enforcement specialists by issuing daily assignments and providing assistance with unusual or difficult parking enforcement activities
- Exercises initiative and independent judgment in the resolution of routine problems.
- Oversees parking enforcement specialists on assigned shift, assigns work locations, provides feedback to supervisor
- Performs more complex parking enforcement, responds and investigates complaints, and handles more difficult parking enforcement cases and issues
- Patrols an assigned area and inspects meters and vehicles for violations of parking regulations; writes summons in case of violation
- Explains applicable parking regulations and procedures for disposition of summons to vehicle operator; cites illegally parked vehicles and calls towing company
- Troubleshoots problem situations and performs inspections of valet parking operations and recommends suspension or revocation of valet parking permits
- Immobilizes vehicles on the City scofflaw (three or more outstanding citations) list; collects outstanding fines and fees when called upon to remove immobilization devices on vehicles
- Performs on-street surveys regarding parking issues including enforcement, meter maintenance and parking regulatory signage
- Prepares work orders for repair and maintenance of parking enforcement equipment and vehicles
- Consults with management staff regarding the selection of enforcement software, hardware, and other parking related purchases or upgrades
- Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- Three (3) or more years of work experience in parking systems and enforcement or related field(s)
- State of Florida Parking Enforcement Certification (This MUST be attached to your application to be considered for the position)
- Possess or be able to obtain a State of Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire
- Must be able to work assigned shift, including nights, weekends and holidays

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. State of Florida Traffic Direction Certification (please attach a copy of this certification to your application before submitting)
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Position requires a lot of walking and extended periods on your feet. Significant amount of time standing kneeling and bending. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
