What are the responsibilities and job description for the SOLID WASTE MAINTENANCE WORKER position at City of Fort Pierce?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This full-time role will deliver, monitor and maintain the inventory of residential carts, commercial dumpsters, and janitorial supplies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Operate trucks and other equipment, collection and removal of solid waste and recyclables. Examples of equipment operated would be a collection truck, container delivery truck, forklift, and small loader.
- Maintain wash rack including power washing surface and ensure equipment is in good operating condition.
- Performs preventive maintenance on various equipment.
- Maintain and keep inventory for carts and dumpsters/ containers and ensure wheeled carts in good condition.
- Performs daily janitorial duties throughout the Solid Waste building.
- May operate a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment in performance of tasks, such as chainsaw, weed-eater, edger, leaf vacuum, and other motorized equipment in solid waste division.
- Responsible for identifying illegally dumped piles, recovering missed stops
- Sort and inspect condition of residential carts
- Repair as necessary carts that are damaged
- Complete periodic inventory of carts to ensure appropriate inventory
- Performs other tasks as required - such as, but not limited to, assisting other routes for completion, attending community events, or delivery of bins and/or car
- Maintains various trash receptacles located on the City’s property.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of general maintenance tasks and procedures.
- Knowledge of turf maintenance and installation and proper equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Six (6) months related manual labor experience. CDL Preferred
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
