A Sign Inspection Specialist job is available with the City of Fort Worth Development Services Inspections Division. The inspections division performs a variety of construction inspection duties including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, sign, and parkway inspections and verifying zoning compliance. With a staff of thirty-four employees, the inspections division performs inspections on a diverse mix of commercial and residential projects for compliance with building codes and regulations.
This position qualifies for the following incentive which is separate from the base pay:
$2,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment
Minimum Qualifications
Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.
Working in all weather conditions; including extreme weather and temperatures. Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting; depending on assignments. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils, and workspace restrictions.
Physical Demands
Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.

Minimum Qualifications
- HS Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in building construction or a related field.
- Four (4) years of experience in building inspection and/or construction related field.
- Valid driver’s license.
- State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License or State of Texas Master Electrician License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate International Code Council (ICC) certification as an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) commercial or a residential inspector within six months of employment.
- ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector certification.
- ICC Commercial Energy Inspector certification.
- Extensive inspection experience.
- Performing electrical inspections to verify compliance with the adopted codes on the more complex projects within the City of Fort Worth
- Attend construction and pre-construction meetings with developers and permit holders.
- Hands-on inspection training in the field with inspectors covering aspects of electrical installations and energy compliance.
- Assisting with less complicated inspections when assistance is needed by other inspectors.
