What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Support Staff position at City Of Fountain Inn?
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to support, coordinate and participate in Recreation department activities including but not limited to recreation events, venue rentals and sports leagues and programs.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
All duties and responsibilities vary based on the rental, event, or sports program needs. Employees can request to participate in one or all three categories.
Support for Sports Leagues and Programs:
- Assist Recreation Coordinators and other City management with administrative and programming needs for all sports year round (based on employee schedule availability) including but not limited to registrations, equipment maintenance, attendee management and customer service.
- Prepare recreational programming with necessary resources for efficient, safe, and service-oriented events including set-up and take down of equipment, score management, and other duties as assigned by City management.
- Promote sports programming and troubleshoots when needed. Promotes and serves as a representative of the Recreation Department at departmental events, businesses, schools and as needed.
Support for Activities Center programming:
- Evaluate the Activities Center upon entering to ensure all areas for safety and the same before leaving the facility. Monitor and walk the outdoor areas periodically, picking up unnecessary trash in the parking lots and grounds.
- Organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, and games. Engage with our 55 members and other patrons. Maintain proper sign-in procedures. Enforce rules and regulations of the Activities Center to maintain discipline and safety.
- Periodically spot mop/dust gym floors for safety of patrons. High touch areas should be wiped down continuously for the health and safety of all. Disinfect rooms after all usage. Front glass doors and windows should always be wiped down and clear. Area rugs need to be vacuumed and clear of grass and debris during downtimes. Clean and wipe down storage carts; clean out unnecessary items in the refrigerator and pull trash overflow.
Support for Rental Venues:
- Follow protocols prior to and after scheduled rental- opening and closing procedures. Acting staff attendant during the entirety of the scheduled reservation. Ensure facility rules and regulations are followed as set forth by the department.
- Guide rental patrons through event details- Ensure reservation times and itinerary are followed. Ensure necessary facility resources are available for rental patrons – when needed.
- Customer Service Driven- Respond to and/or problem solve rental patron questions and concerns. Promote positive relationships with the public.
All three categories:
Performs customer service functions: provides information or assistance regarding services, activities, forms, procedures, fees, or other issues; responds to routine questions and complaints; researches problems and initiates problem resolution; and refers complaints/problems to appropriate personnel.
Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, sports associations, parents, participants, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Regular Attendance: Consistent and reliable in-person attendance to ensure effective teamwork, collaboration, and communication with colleagues, clients, and community members. This includes but is not limited to attending scheduled meetings, participating in on-site or off-site events, and being available during standard departmental functions. The City will attempt to accommodate any reasonable adjustments as outlined by the ADA.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

ADA Compliance:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate to heavy physical effort in work, with greater emphasis on extended periods of standing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions will require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
