THE POSITIONUnder supervision, Sanitation Operators provide customers with convenient and cost-effective, green waste, trash, and recycling collection services. Our organization's statement of purpose and reason for existence: We ensure the preservation of our community's environment, collect and manage Green Waste, Refuse and Recyclables in a professional, safe and efficient manner through teamwork, education and high-quality service. Incumbents participate in the collection of discarded waste materials; participates in community clean-up; conducts all activities according to the delivery and collection schedule; and courteously serves the public. Sanitation Operators work with independently in the field making decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.There are multiple vacancies in the Solid Waste Management Division. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months. THE REQUIREMENTSApplicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination, however this does not assure a place on the eligibility list.Possession of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; AND One (1) year of experience performing waste collection activities, or two years of experience operating a commercial vehicle which requires a Class B Driver's License or above.Possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License, without airbrake restriction, at time of application and maintain a valid Class B California Driver's License for the entire term of employment in this classification.
