What are the responsibilities and job description for the ICPOET Cadet position at City of Fridley?
To attend and successfully complete the Intensive Comprehensive Peace Officer Education and Training (ICPOET) Grant Cohort program and skills to obtain required Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) through Hennepin Technical College or Alexandria Technical College. After completion of the ICPOET Grant Cohort program, the cadet will take the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensing exam. Upon passing the POST exam, the cadet will be eligible to be hired as a full-time police officer with the City of Fridley. The ICPOET Grant Cohort program will run from approximately March 2025 to August 2025.
- Attend and successfully complete ICPOET cohort, maintaining a “C” or better
- Attend and pass all police training sessions when not attending classes
- Participate in ride-a-longs with current police officers when assigned
- Follow department policies and procedures
- Attend department meetings when not attending classes
- Provide monthly updates regarding academic progress, including transcripts, to supervisors
- Participate in community events with the Public Safety Department to build positive relationships with community members and groups.
- Take and successfully pass the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) licensing exam upon completion of the cohort program.
- Work for the Fridley Police Department as a licensed police officer upon completion of skills and POST exam.
- Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
- No previous police experience required
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s License
- Two (2) or four (4) year degree from a regionally accredited college or university in any field of study
- Satisfactory completion of physical exam, drug test, criminal background investigation including fingerprinting, and reference checks
- Must have not previously completed or started a Minnesota PPOE (Professional Peace Officer Education) program or taken the Minnesota POST exam
- Must be able to pass a physical ability test and maintain the physical fitness needed to perform all essential job duties
