What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Recreation Program Coordinator position at City of Fridley?
The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing, assisting and coordinating recreation programs and/or special events during the summer.
- Assist Recreation division in providing leadership, work direction, schedules, communication and on-site supervision for part-time/seasonal staff and contractual staff.
- Organize the planning of trainings, meetings, and ongoing coaching.
- Supervise, lead, and set a positive example for youth in summer programs
- Assist with program and event management including registration, marketing, staff supervision, schedule, public outreach, communications and coordination of employees and programs
- Responsible for communication with program participants and employees regarding program updates, facility conditions and weather-related issues
- Keep accurate records of daily attendance, accident reports and discipline reports
- Document and inform supervisor of on-site program concerns including scheduling conflicts, maintenance needs, and all other pertinent program related issues
- Inventory supplies and equipment for programs, communicate with supervisor and purchase additional supplies as directed.
- Development of projects, games, and other fun activities
Work Schedule: This seasonal position can anticipate 30-40 hours/week starting late May and ending late August. Hours will typically be during the day, with some evening hours to cover scheduled programming.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- 3 years of experience working with children (volunteer or paid)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- One year customer service experience
- Previous experience working in recreation or related field
- College coursework in recreation, event planning, education, project coordination, leadership or closely related field
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to lead and organize activities professionally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
- Ability to apply the knowledge and skills required to provide work direction and leadership for part-time and contractual staff and volunteers.
- Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to work well with others and independently.
