General Summary
Under general supervision of Police Sergeant, enforces Federal, State, and City laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes by performing various law enforcement tasks that support local law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Performs investigative work and other special assignments; performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Fulshear Police Department. Maintains a high visibility in the community to deter and prevent criminal activity, as well as a community-oriented approach to educate the public in ways to protect themselves from criminal activity and / or prevent accidents and injuries.

- Maintains constant vigilance for criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, and hazards to life or property, taking appropriate action as required.
- Enforces traffic laws and provide general traffic management in the event of accidents, disabled vehicles, or other dangerous situations occurring on City streets.
- Arrests, or assists in the arrest of, persons suspected of violations of law or ordinances, and does so with full compliance with the law, ordinances, and departmental policy.
- Mediates and / or negotiates conflicts and disagreements within the community.
- Prepares all required forms and reports accurately in a complete and timely manner.
- Presents testimony and evidence in municipal and county courts in traffic, civil, or criminal cases.
- Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.
- Transport prisoners to jails or other necessary facilities.
- Ensures assigned equipment and / or patrol unit is always properly secured.
- Responsible for inspecting and ensuring the proper care and maintenance of all department owned equipment and vehicles.
- Assists with Police Department and City sponsored events including traffic and crowd control.
- Promotes positive department-community relations.
- Advocates public awareness for crime prevention, neighborhood watch, and other citizen programs.
- Travel to attend meetings, conferences, and training.
- Operates police vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
- Regular and consistent attendance for assigned work hours is required.
- Maintains a respectful, professional, and supportive position on all supervisory or administrative departmental decisions made.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule. Employee may be required to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and mandatory over-time as needed.
- This position is considered essential during a natural or manmade disaster and / or a catastrophic event. Work is performed in the municipal police department office and field environments. This job requires sufficient physical strength, agility, dexterity, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential functions. Duties also require frequent sitting, walking, running, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, and bending. Work exposes employee to potential hazards such as extreme weather conditions, hazardous driving conditions, hostile environments, hazardous chemicals and fumes, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, or air and water borne pathogens. Employee is subject to excessive audio / visual discrimination and perception when making professional observations, communicating with others, reading, writing, and operating assigned equipment. The employee must reasonably be able to restrain and handle combative individuals according to policy and laws. Must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to occasionally lift and / or move 100 pounds or more.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Texas Driver's License.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Must possess an active Police Officer Certification with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

Must be able to maintain the department's physical fitness requirements within the scope of departmental policy.

The City of Fulshear provides a comprehensive, cost effective, health and welfare package that includes the following : medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability (LTD), vision, flexible spending options, employee assistance program, retirement, and deferred compensation programs. Medical, dental and vision benefits are effective the first day of the month after your start date. Medical, dental, vision, LTD, and Life premiums are paid 100% by the City for all full time employees. The City will contribute 25% towards dependant healthcare costs. We also provide vacation, sick leave, holidays, bereavement, jury leave, and military leave.
HEALTH INSURANCE
The city offers employees medical insurance through BlueCross BlueShield. There is no Primary Care Physician (PCP) required. You have the option to choose one of the following plans : BlueCross BlueShield PPO (co-pay) or BlueCross BlueShield PPO HSA (high deductible plan).
FLEXIBLE SPENDING OPTIONS
Flexible Spending Accounts (Health Care and Dependent Care) allow the employee to pay for certain un-reimbursed health expenses and dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis. Health Care Flexible Spending account is limited use when combined with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Healthcare Plan. City of Fulshear will contribute a total of $518.00 annually to your HSA plan.
DENTAL INSURANCE
The City offers employees dental insurance through Blue Cross Blue Shield. This plan is unique in that it allows you to choose any licensed dentist for covered services and the plan pays at the reasonable and customary rate until annual maximum.
VISION
The City offers vision insurance through EyeMed. EyeMed Vision plan offers benefits for eye exams, frames and lenses or contact lenses.
LIFE INSURANCE
The City provides a life insurance policy one times your annual salary to all full-time employees which includes an accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) through The Standard.
LONG TERM DISABILITY
Long Term Disability is funded completely by the City and is intended to help continue your income if you become unable to work due to illness or injury.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - EAP
EAP services are provided through MetLife. AFLAC
Employees have the option of enrolling in AFLAC as a pre-tax benefit. Additional voluntary life insurance and AD&D options are available for employees and their families. The city does not cover any deductible, copays, or premiums associated with this benefit.
TEXAS MUNICIPAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM - TMRS
The City of Fulshear offers a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System. The City of Fulshear's TMRS plan requires a contribution (made by means of bi-weekly payroll deductions) equal to seven percent (7%) of the salary of each regular full-time City employee. The City matches employee contributions on a 2 to 1 basis after the employee is vested at the time of retirement. Vesting occurs after five (5) years of employment. Supplemental death benefits are offered by TMRS, who will pay a one-time lump sum payment approximately equal to one year's salary based on the 12 months prior to death.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION
In addition to TMRS retirement, 457B plans are available. The purpose of these plans is to allow an employee to set aside a portion of his / her salary and receive its value at retirement.
LEAVE ACCURAL
The City offers the following leave per year :
