Locates and marks buried water and sewer lines prior to construction activities performed by contractors and other utilities.  Flushes water lines as needed for system maintenance; performs minor repairs such as water leaks; tests water line pressure; identifies, or verifies, nature of customer complaints.
 

Locates and marks water lines and sewers as requested through the Utility Protection Center (UPC).

Conducts pressure checks with data logger system.

Flushes water lines for system maintenance through use of fire hydrants and other approved methods.

Inspects water system operation for unusual conditions.

Responds to customer complaints for problems of loss of water service; may diagnose problem and make minor repairs or determine if major repairs are required by a service crew.

Repairs water meter leaks by replacing couplings or changing meter.

Performs other related duties as required.

Employee subject to recall to duty in cases of emergency.

Education and Experience:
 
Ability to read and write.
 
Minimum of 12 months prior experience as Construction Utility Technician.
 
Any equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the minimum qualifications stated above.
 
Licenses and Certifications:
 
DOT Certified Flagger.
 
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, incumbents will be subject to random drug testing.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
Knowledge of the City water and sewer system to include system lines and their locations.
 
Knowledge of the use of valve and pipeline locating equipment such as Metro-tech.
 
Knowledge of basic computer functions and ability to use keyboard.  
 
Ability to mainatain moderately complex records and reports.
 
Ability to read and understand computer generated maps and drawings.
 
Ability to deal with public, contractors, and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
 
Knowledge of City and County road system.
 
Ability to repair water meter leaks.
 
Ability to work under adverse conditions.
 This position is classified as safety-sensitive.  Incumbent will be subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

  • The above position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of a Water Distribution Certification.
     
  • The above position qualifies for a 5% certification incentive based upon attainment of a Wastewater Collection Certification.
     
               Allows maximum of 10% above grade 16.

Salary : $37,440 - $47,715
