The City of Loganville is seeking a full time Utility Locator for properly marking utility lines in order to prevent damage from unrelated digging and trenching, assist with technical responsibilities of utility technicians and assisting with utility services and repairs. Work is performed under the direct supervision of Field Manager or Department Director.
Major Duties:
· Locate utility lines on major highways, streets and City service areas.
· Properly mark lines to prevent damage from digging; report any damages to utility lines.
· Monitor construction work surrounding utility lines.
· Consult with contractors, developers, builders and construction workers regarding location of utility lines and appropriate digging and trenching areas.
· Perform related duties assigned.
· Assist other departments with daily tasks.
Knowledge Required by the Position:
· Knowledge of geography of city streets and GIS mapping system
· Knowledge in proper locating of city utility infrastructure
· Knowledge of city service and departmental policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of appropriate dig laws.
· Knowledge of proper safety procedures.
· Knowledge of federal, state and local safety rules and regulations
· Skill in dealing with the public.
· Skill in oral and written communications.
· Ability to operate locating equipment.
· Ability to work independently from general instruction and broad work expectations.
· Ability to complete operations from maps generated from GPS mapping software.
· Knowledge of basic computer operations.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language.
Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent, desire (1) year of related experience. Must possess a valid State of Georgia driver’s license, and have a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record; CPR & First Aid certification is desirable. In addition, must possess an acceptable Criminal Background and pass a Drug Screen.
