What are the responsibilities and job description for the Event Setup Staff - Kentlands Mansion position at City of Gaithersburg?
The Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture is seeking part-time Event Setup Staff for the Kentlands Mansion to assist with setting up and breaking down rooms at the Mansion for events, meetings, programs, and activities. Staff may also perform some light custodial work including cleaning, sweeping, mopping, and picking up/disposing of trash.
Flexible schedule, approximately 5 to 10 hours per week based on operational needs (hours will vary depending on scheduled events and other activities). Primarily weekend hours, with occasional opportunities for work hours during the week (mornings, afternoons, or evenings). This would be a great part-time job opportunity for high school aged students (14 and up) looking for employment.
Starting hourly rate will be within the range and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Direct deposit of paychecks is a condition of employment for all City of Gaithersburg employees.
- Assist with setting up rooms and audio-visual equipment for events, activities, programs, and meetings; assist with breaking down rooms and storing equipment or supplies at the conclusion of same.
- Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Arrange banquet tables and chairs for weddings and other social events.
- Routine custodial work including cleaning, sweeping, mopping, and disposing of trash.
- May perform some light grounds maintenance work including weeding, watering flowers, and gathering and disposing of trash from gardens and lawn.

- A positive attitude and the ability to be courteous, respectful, and professional while working with staff and customers.
- The physical ability to regularly lift, move, and/or carry objects or materials weighing up to 60 pounds.

- The ability to understand, follow, and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in English to follow instructions, safety precautions, and work procedures.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Or any acceptable combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
