Job Description

Under the general direction of the Solid Waste Supervisor or Designee incumbent performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance operation and litter control of Solid Waste Department building and related grounds including recycling locations and other City properties. Performs collection of recyclables at various locations and city facilities. Provides assistance in the areas of public education public relations implementing ideas coordination etc. for current programs related to recycling. Inspects trucks and other vehicles hauling recycled materials to determine type of materials received; records information on materials received; ensures adherence on appropriate materials allowed at drop sites. Directs customers and drivers to proper loading/unloading areas and assists with handling loading/unloading recycling materials from vehicles to bins. Keeps recycle yard clean by sweeping raking picking up broken glass and loose paper debris and maneuvering barrels and bins into locations. Perform other cleaning duties related to plant equipment and general housekeeping. Interacts with customers and provides requested information and direction to the general public as necessary. Maintain records of customer interactions recording details of inquiries complaints and comments report problems immediately to management. Assists in the preparation of facilities including the set-up of equipment for special events. Perform duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local state and federal regulations and company policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
