BASE PAY :
Salary : $28.77 ($59,841.60 Annually)
ADDITIONAL PAY (UPON ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY) :
Bilingual Pay - $50 per month.
POST Certificate and Education Incentive Pay - 5% - 10%
Canine Handler - 3 / 4 of an hour pay X 7 days a week.
Corporal Pay - 5%
Field Training Officer (FTO) - 5%
Longevity Pay- beginning at 8 years of service 2.5%; 10 years of service 5%; 12 years of service 7.5%
Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family.
BENEFITS :
Holiday Pay - 14 holidays (shift personnel holiday in lieu pay equal to 9.33 hours of pay each month).
Vacation Leave - 80 hours per year; after 4 years- 120 hours
Sick Leave - 96 hours per year.

GPOA / REPRESENTED POSITION
FLSA STATUS : Non-Exempt / Hourly
This is an entry-level, non-sworn position in the Police Department. Incumbents are assigned to or are currently attending a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy and must satisfactorily pass all of the requirements that lead to the possession of the P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in addition to passing all phases of the background process. An assignment to this classification is temporary and the incumbent is considered "at-will". Appointment to a sworn Police Officer position is contingent upon successful completion of the academy and background process then followed by final review by the Police Chief.
Under direction of a Police Sergeant or Field Training Officer, the Police Officer Recruit attends a designated California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) approved police academy to learn, train and successfully perform all activities related to the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform in the capacity of a sworn City of Galt Police Officer and performs related work as required.
Example of Duties
Successfully learn, both academic and physical (defensive tactics, firearm, driving, etc.) requirements of the position.
Attend any other related training.
Control traffic flow and enforces state laws and local municipal codes violations and traffic regulations.
Perform investigative work.
Participate in and provide support and assistance to special crime prevention and enforcement programs.
Typical Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be :
Education : Equivalent to graduation from high school. Must provide verification of POST PELLETB t-score of 42 or above when at time of application.
Must currently be enrolled in a POST Academy and provide a letter of good standing.
License : Must possess a valid California class C driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Additional Requirements : Must be 21 years of age by time of appointment to sworn police officer position. Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship prior to applying for the position of Police Officer Recruit. Must successfully complete a background investigation, which shall include polygraph and psychological exams and a fingerprint clearance. Must be able to pass a physical examination, which includes a drug screen, administered by a City appointed physician.
Supplemental Information
Working Conditions : Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts, pass a detailed background investigation and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to hazardous materials and all weather conditions.
Physical Demands : Must maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards, including mobility and physical strength and stamina to respond to emergency situations and apprehend suspects, lift and move individuals or objects weighing to 100 pounds; ability to work in a standard office setting and to operate a motor vehicle; vision to maintain firearms qualification, to read printed materials and a computer screen, discern colors and work in a night setting; and hearing and speech to communicate before groups, in person and over the telephone and radio.
MEDICAL The City of Galt participates in the CalPERS Health Program. Employees have a wide variety of choices of HMOs and PPOs. Employees receive a set dollar amount for benefits(cafeteria plan) in accordance with the MOU.
CASH IN-LIEU OF GROUP INSURANCE Employees who choose to waive coverage under the City's medical insurance program shall be compensated $200 for waiving employee only coverage, $350 per month for waiving employee plus one and $500 per month for waiving employee plus family coverage.
DENTAL City pays the total cost of the premium for employee and dependents.
VISION PLAN City pays the total cost of the premium for employee and dependents.
LIFE INSURANCE City pays the total cost of premium for $50,000 coverage.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD) City pays total cost of premium.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is administered by Guidance Resources. Confidential, employer-paid benefit program designed to assist employees in solving personal problems and managing everyday issues.
RETIREMENT SYSTEM (CalPERS) Current CalPERS full time employees are covered under the 2 % @ 55 PERS retirement program. The City pays 100% of the employer contribution for this program. Employees contribute 7% employee contribution amount.
NOTE : New CalPERS full time employees (hired after 1 / 1 / 13) are covered under the 2% @ 62 retirement program. The City and employee will be cost sharing the Normal Cost. This amount shall change annually.
The employee and City both contribute to Social Security / Medicare.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION Voluntary Deferred Compensation Plan through TIAA-CREFF.

LONGEVITY Regular full time employees, who have been employed by the City for 15 years, shall be paid 5% above their regular base pay.
