Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Accounts Payable Clerk with the Service & Finance Department. This is a part-time position that will be scheduled for approximately 18 hours per week. This position is responsible for processing all functions related to the City’s Accounts Payable. Posting will remain open until filled.
Examples of Duties
- Prepares quarterly reports and year-end reports.
- Verifies purchase orders and posts all invoices for payment.
- Prepares checks for vendors. Processes payments electronically for authorized vendors.
- Maintains and balances vendor accounts. Reconciles City purchase card accounts monthly.
- Prepares Year-End 1099’s.
- Maintains and updates fixed asset records according to fixed asset policy.
- Distribute all invoices to appropriate departments upon receipt.
- Types office correspondence, as needed.
- Issues credit applications and tax exemption certificates, as directed.
- Maintains vendor account information and verifies W-9 forms.
- Maintains and updates the positive pay system through commerce connections.
- Participates in financial analysis.
- Assists and provides redundant support of Accounts Receivable as needed.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of accounting principles and/or cash transactions is required. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and computer technology. Skill in using electronic office equipment and software (Microsoft Office, Tyler Enterprise ERP) with precision. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate with City employees, officials, the general public, and/or vendors in a pleasant and professional manner. Ability to plan, organize and complete timely, a variety of work activities accurately.
Education, Certification and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required. Business or vocational accounting courses are preferred. One to three years of experience in accounts payable processes, preferably municipal government experience, and experience with PC-related systems are preferred. A valid Kansas driver's license is required.

Environment: Work is performed indoors in an office setting in a controlled environment. Surfaces: Carpet and tile.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and carry up to 10 pounds on occasion, reach, bend, turn, see, hear, lean, crouch, stoop, carry, sit, stand, walk, verbalize, and write.
