Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for IT Specialist with the IT Department. This position will manage and support the organization's technology infrastructure. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting all IT-related hardware, software, and networks. The IT Specialist will also ensure the efficient and effective use of technology to support business operations.
Examples of Duties
- Technical Support:
- Provide first and second-level technical support to end-users.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
- Respond to and resolve help desk requests in a timely manner.

System Administration:
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, applications, and hardware.
- Monitor system performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
- Perform regular backups and ensure data integrity.

Network Management:
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Implement and manage security measures to protect data and systems.

Project Management:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of IT projects.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers to ensure smooth project execution.
- Document project requirements, specifications, and progress.

Security and Compliance:
- Implement and manage IT security policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Training and Documentation:
- Develop and deliver training sessions to staff on new technologies and best practices.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Possess knowledge of personal computer technology hardware and software including all Windows versions and common business/office applications. Proficiency in network management and security. Ability to evaluate opportunities for new technology. Ability to provide clear and concise reports. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with City employees, government agencies, business vendors and suppliers, and the general public. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in computer technology, communications, or two years of experience. Additional experience in administrative support. A valid Kansas driver’s license is required. Certifications such as CompTIA A , Network , Security , Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.). Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
Supplemental Information
Environment: Work is performed in an office environment, or where temperature, contaminants, and noise are not normally encountered; hazards are minor and controllable. May require occasional evening or weekend work.
Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift and move computer equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working on a computer.
