JOB DESCRIPTION:
The System Engineer will support the Information Technology (IT) department, reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex IT systems, including servers, storage, and virtualization infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain server and storage infrastructure
- Manage virtualization platforms and cloud environments
- Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions
- Monitor system performance and capacity, making recommendations for improvements
- Troubleshoot complex system issues and implement solutions
- Ensure system security through regular updates, patches, and best practices
- Collaborate with network and security teams to maintain overall IT infrastructure integrity
- Develop and maintain system documentation and standard operating procedures
- Participate in IT projects, focusing on system architecture and integration
- Assist in capacity planning and budgeting for IT infrastructure
- Implement and maintain automation and orchestration tools for system management
- Provide technical support and guidance to IT Technical Support
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and technologies.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and security practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Understanding of IT security principles and best practices
RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT –FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY:
Functions as a lead worker, responsible for training, instruction, setting the work pace, and possibly evaluating performance. No budget responsibility.
COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices. Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice. No regular travel other than Citywide is required.
