What are the responsibilities and job description for the Code Enforcement Officer position at CITY OF GEORGE WEST?
The City of George West is accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer enforces city ordinances as it relates to health and safety and includes code of ordinance violations pertaining to public nuisances (high grass, substandard structures, and safety hazards from debris on properties are a few examples).
Not a sworn law enforcement officer, the code enforcement officer is still a member of the police department and is under the direction of the Chief of Police. Due to this, a criminal history check will be conducted. Grounds for disqualification include having a felony conviction (to include a deferred adjudication conviction) at any time, a family violence conviction (to include a deferred adjudication conviction) at any time, or a class A or B misdemeanor conviction (or deferred adjudication conviction) within the last 10 years.
Experience as a Code Enforcement Officer is preferred but not required. The Code Enforcement Officer must have communication and conflict management skills as well as a positive attitude toward making a profound difference in the community we serve. This position requires the candidate to be able to articulate as well as write detailed reports on violations and incidents and have a good working knowledge and the necessary computer skills to navigate and use software needed for the position. The code enforcement officer must have or be able to obtain and maintain a basic Texas Code Enforcement Certification issued by the State within one year of employment. Applications may be picked up at the City of George West City Hall Monday-Friday from 8a-noon and from 1p-5p. This position is open until filled. The starting pay will DOQ.
