Working under the formal title of Recreation Specialist II)

Would you like to spend your summer creating impactful memories for campers that will last a lifetime? The City of Glendora has a part-time (temporary- seasonal) position available in our Recreation Division as a Day Camp Director at Dirt Camp up in the Glendora Foothills. The current vacancy is 35 - 40 hours per week during the summer of 2025. Camp is 8 weeks long with training prior. Applicant must be committed to working June 3 - August 8, Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4 : 30 p.m. Applicants must enjoy the great outdoors, hiking, singing songs, crafts, and have the leadership skills to work with all ages.

Availability to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed is required.

Under direct supervision, the Day Camp Director performs a variety of duties within the City's Recreation & Human Services Department. Some of the typical duties of the Day Camp Director include but are not limited to, the following :

  • Develop, schedule, and coordinate day camp activities.
  • Schedule, supervise, lead, and evaluate staff.
  • Institute and enforce camp rules and discipline / reward procedures for participants and staff.
  • Ensure participant welfare during all activities, trips, and transportation.
  • Ensure the proper handling of first-aid and emergency situations.
  • Train and orient day camp staff and volunteers.
  • Drives to various field locations.
  • Ensures all City policies, procedures, and protocol are enforced.
  • Interacts with participants and visitors in person, phone, and e-mail.
  • Reports incidents and accidents and completes incident / accident reports.
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with patrons as they arise.
  • Utilizes City's calendar for reservations and field lighting software.
  • Maintains various forms, logs, and reports.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Works with other program areas, as requested.
  • Other activities and duties as directed.

Qualifications

May include, but are not limited to, the following : High school graduate or equivalent, plus two years of college coursework and experience in developing, organizing and directing programs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; set up or take down tables, chairs and other equipment for classes or special events; must be able to lift 40 pounds and push / pull 50 pounds and get from location to location during the course of doing business.

Special Requirements

May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Applicants must possess a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record during the course of employment.
