Position Overview
The Facility Maintenance specialist is responsible for ensuring all city facility assets are functional. The Specialist will perform construction and repair duties and manage all contracts related to building maintenance. Additionally, this person will support facility use for all departments and collaborate on future facility developments.
The ideal candidate is able to work independently while being a productive team member, have a variety of practical facility skills and can use technology for service delivery. The successful candidate does not need to be an expert in any one field, has practical experience in a variety of building maintenance needs and is familiar with budgeting and capital improvement needs.
Expected Hours of Work
Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 7 am to 3:00 pm. In addition to working hours, staff may be required to work additional events. Hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Responsible for facility maintenance and oversight of city facilities, including performing a variety of routine and preventative maintenance, conducting and repairs including, but not limited to, lighting, electrical, plumbing, mechanical HVAC systems, elevators, generators, and physical spaces.
- Perform routine repairs including carpentry, electrical, drywall, doors, furniture, plumbing, painting, flooring, windows, doors, roof, and ceiling.
- Coordinates and manages contracted maintenance, repairs, cleaning/custodial, and other building maintenance work on city facilities.
- Perform a variety of custodial services to city facilities to provide clean, safe, and good function, including but not limited to, spot cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, and soap and paper product refill.
- Perform a variety of reconstruction/remodeling duties on city facilities, including but not limited to, installing flooring, walls, ceiling, communication lines, and basic construction of office furniture.
- Continually monitor and manage the building control systems, including evaluating and diagnosing equipment and system failures, and recommending repair solutions.
- Monitor the performance, function, and condition of city facilities and advise superintendent of major maintenance or repairs of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building operation systems.
- Assist t during budget planning to recommend capital improvement and equipment upgrades and repairs. Manages Capital Improvement Projects to ensure they are met.
- Use technology to track and provide timely responses to requests for service and work orders.
- Use technology to document maintenance and repairs of city facilities, including but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building operation systems, and responsible for document management/data retention
- Prepare specifications, obtain quotes, write Request for Proposals, and select contractors.
- Use technology to perform and document routine and OSHA inspections and coordinate with OSHA, and safety committee as needed
- Conduct regular administrative duties including, monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, and coordinating with staff at all facilities to ensure needs are met.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives, meetings, and programs, including arranging table, chairs, and equipment for various meetings and events.
- Perform snow and ice removal and other maintenance duties related to the building grounds.

- 18 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Minimum two years of experience providing facility management/facility coordination
- Experience with safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and light construction and maintenance equipment.
- Experience working with asset management, inventory, or other related software.
- Valid Special Boiler’ License, or ability to obtain one within six months from hire.
- Ability to operate equipment, acquire licenses, and complete trainings required for this position.
- Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Desired Qualifications
- Building Utilities Maintenance certificate or two-year vocational training in building maintenance, or related field.
- Five or more years of experience conducting facility management responsibilities.
