What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Leader position at City of Golden?
Performs a variety of camp duties to include planning, organizing, guiding, implementing classes, activities, and special events on a daily basis. Under guidance of supervisor, assists and instructs camp participants as needed.
Follows and enforces all department and camp policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude. Provides a safe camp environment.
Maintains cleanliness of facility and organization of materials and equipment in accordance with Colorado Department of Human Services Rules Regulating School-Age Child Care Centers and Golden Parks and Recreation Department's policies.
Communicates with parents and staff to provide information about camp activities and camper successes and problems while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude.
Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) by date of hire preferred. Three months of full-time or equivalent part-time satisfactory and verifiable work experience with school-age children in areas such as education, camps, day care, recreation, 4H education, scouts, and/or sports (480 hours). Swimming skills preferred. Must have strong organizational skills
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Child and Adult CPR certification and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain a certification in Universal Precautions within 30 days of hire.
- May be required to obtain a Medication Administration certification within 30 day s of hire.
- Must pass a State of Colorado sexual abuse background check and a CBI finger print criminal.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, community organizations, the public, and participants. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution techniques and patience when dealing with stressful disciplinary situations.
Excellent customer service and childcare skills are imperative. Ability to interact with different age and interest groups and handle several activities and multiple tasks. Must make independent decisions and the ability to complete projects with minimal supervision.
