Under direction of Student & Family Programs Coordinator and Hands-on History Instructors, History Camp Aides assist and lead a variety of activities for the Golden History Museum & Park’s Hands-on History Summer Camp program for children 6-12 years of age. 

Applicants are required to make a minimum commitment of 2 weeks of camp, which runs Monday through Friday from June 2 - August 1, 2025 (camp is on break from June 30 to July 4, 2025). Half-day or full day camp schedules are available. Full day History Camp Aide hours are typically 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday – Friday.

Under supervision, assists in a variety of day camp activities including activity setup and clean up, game/activity instruction, child supervision, and general cleaning as needed.


Follows and enforces all department and camp policies, rules, and regulations while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude. Helps provide a safe camp environment.  


Under supervision, maintains cleanliness of facility and organization of materials and equipment. Helps to prepare activities for the entire week of camp and move supplies as needed.


Provides a safe, creative and fun environment for participants. Promotes and encourages children to have fun while learning in a high-energy atmosphere.


Learns weekly lesson plans and follows daily schedule for assigned camp sessions.


Communicates to supervisor, information about camp activities and camper successes and concerns.

Must be at least 13 years of age prior to start date. Prior experience with children ages 6-12 preferred. Ability to follow simple instructions and communicate information to participants. Ability to recognize safety concerns and communicate to supervisor immediately. Ability to interact with different age and interest groups and handle several activities and multiple tasks. First aid and CPR certification preferred.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Historic costumes, reproductions of various historic tools, garden tools, etc. Use of technology, iPod, iPad.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The volunteer frequently is required to sit. The volunteer is occasionally required to climb or balance. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Duties require moderate movement and physical effort; discomforts and hazards are minor and controllable.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions during summer months. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, uneven terrain, chickens, beehives, and vegetable garden. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
