Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Admin. Lt. performs clerical work involving typing data entry and filing of various police records. Also serves as a receptionist for the department greeting and assisting the public as necessary.

Under the general direction of the Admin. Lt.; performs the following tasks or assignments:
A.Enters data on the computer system regarding accident; crime; incident; arrest reports and traffic tickets.
B.Files and cross-files records related to accident; crime; incident; and arrest reports and traffic tickets.
C.Prepares and maintains files on warrants; missing persons; vehicles; bicycles; and property.
D.Serves as a receptionist for the department; greeting and assisting the public as necessary.
E.Prepares daily bulletins.
F.Sends and receives information on the teletype.
G.Maintains logs.
H.Routes appropriate reports to others.
I.Responds to record checks from authorized sources.
J.Performs other duties as assigned or required.
K.Complies with all city and departmental policies and procedures
Qualifications
Qualifications:
I.Knowledge of modern office methods and equipment.
II.Demonstrates working knowledge of computers and software applications; including word processing; spreadsheets; etc.
III.Demonstrates working knowledge of bookkeeping and record keeping procedures.
IV.Ability to learn specific procedures; practices; and relative laws and ordinances.
V.Demonstrates working knowledge of English; spelling; grammar; and math.
VI.Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff in verbal and written formats.
VII.Ability to maintain confidentiality.
VIII.Ability to exercise independent judgment.
IX.Must exercise considerable tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and other City employees.
X.Must be able to communicate effectively when using the phone and demonstrate proper telephone communication skills.
XI.Ability to perform under constant interruptions.
XII.Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
XIII.Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Education/Experience
Education/Experience:
Requires a high school diploma or GED. Experience with business; typing; word processing; and bookkeeping. Proficiency in the use of the computer is essential in this position.
Working Conditions
Working Conditions: Work is inside and involves prolonged sitting. Subject to eyestrain. Work is light and may involve lifting; pulling; pushing; carrying; handling; seeing; hearing; and talking.
