Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the position will coordinate and perform repairs, including both maintenance and preventative maintenance at Culture Parks and Recreation Department (CPRD) facilities. Render technical assistance with maintenance and construction activities across various CPRD facilities. May act as project manager for projects that may include repair, remodeling and renovation of City owned buildings. Ensure facilities follow Federal, State and Local applicable building and accessibility codes. The position may require including some early morning, nights and occasional weekend shifts for special events.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Requirements
- Specialized training beyond high school normally gained in a program of less than 18 months duration.
- 3-5 years' experience in related fields including maintenance and technical skills.
- Valid Colorado driver's license and good driving record (must be obtained within two months of employment).
Preferred
- Detailed knowledge and experience of working with a range of historic structures and materials within historic preservation best practices.
- When a project requires, ensure facility projects follow the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Historic Preservation.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of procedures, practices or operations required.
- Able to follow detailed instructions.
- May require typing or bookkeeping skills, operation of several single purpose power tools/machines or equipment involving specialized training.
- Entry level knowledge of complex software.
- May prepare routine reports or correspondence. Typically, on-the-job training of processes and procedures.
- In depth knowledge of power and hand tools normally associated with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance including operation of work vehicles, man lifts, utility vehicles, and ability to safely pull trailers.
Essential Functions
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs on recreation CPRD facilities including locks, interior and exterior walls, painting, doors, flooring, facility ADA accessibility, fixtures, electrical, including replacing and bypassing ballasts and light fixture upgrades, plumbing, pool winterization, pool startup and structural features.
- Ensures that facilities follow applicable Federal, State and Local building codes, which include building, electrical, mechanical, fire, safety, and accessibility codes.
- Analyzes operation and maintenance problems and implements corrective measures.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs on equipment including vacuums, floor scrubbers, floor buffers, fitness cable machines, treadmills, cycling bikes, recumbent bikes, ellipticals, step mills, appliances, lifts, gas and coal forges, propane cookers, historic fireplaces. Analyze operation and maintenance problems and implement corrective measures.
- Assists with snow removal at various CPRD sites. This includes hand shoveling, running snow blowers, using a tractor with snow brush, operating a Gator with a snowplow, and applying ice melt.
- Assists in the development of plans, specifications and cost estimates for projects that are presented to Culture Parks and Recreation Department stakeholders.
- Works effectively with the public, internal customers using patience and good judgment. Assist in the design, estimating, managing, reporting and scheduling specifications, scope of work, requisitions/purchase orders, bid documents, pre-construction agenda/meetings, awarding of project, coordination with contractors, supervising project and completion.
- Works effectively with the public and internal customers during special events including some early morning, nights, and occasional weekends assisting guests and stakeholders to resolve issues using patience and good judgment.
- Assists with occasional planning, project management and supervision of volunteers.
- Communicates with employees on the work requests they submit for repair, remodeling, office moves, facility installations, equipment repairs, and any other requests that are submitted through the work order system.
- Meets with various vendors and contractors to order parts, supplies, research of new products etc. and to coordinate work to be done on projects.
- Participates in team meetings and other training as assigned. This includes helping with onboarding and training new employees.
- Sets up and breaks down to support special events, rentals, and programs at various CPRD facilities. This includes tenting, chairs, tables, and periodically sound systems. Ensure that the grounds and walkways are clear and collect and dispose of all trash.
- Daily coordination and interaction as a result of planning and executing essential maintenance tasks. Soliciting quotes, setting up work schedules and coordinating access. Contacting for operation support and scheduling dates and times. Supervises and directs work on projects.
- Consults with key stakeholders on scheduling work, historic preservation practices, special event tasks, and general facility needs.
- Problem solving and decision making is an essential skillset for this position. Work tasks are not completely defined by comprehensive procedure; rather there may be limited, clear variations of precedent or alternative, defined solutions that should be considered. Latitude is expected to consider the most appropriate procedure or precedent to follow. Occasionally the incumbent is called upon to remediate emergency situations such as burst pipes and problems with operating systems in facilities.

- Hazardous to extreme hazards reflect continuous exposure to life threatening conditions are difficult to predict and/or protect against.
- Daily work on electrical equipment and in aquatics pump and chemical rooms.

Physical Requirements

- Employees are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to sit, walk, climb or balance, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell. Must be able to lift and more up to 50 pounds and up to or about 100 pounds.
