Job Summary:

The Recreation Coordinator II is an integral part of the City of Greeley's Recreation Division.  Each Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing Recreation programs and services.  The Recreation Coordinators each oversee several part-time staff and may oversee one full-time employee. These positions are directly responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation of the part-time staff. The Recreation Coordinators also schedule facilities, sell memberships, collaborate with outside contractors, secure donations, conduct surveys and ensure facilities are operating efficiently. 

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:

Minimum Requirements

  • CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to get within three (3) months of hire. 
  • High School Diploma.
  • At least one year of recreation or special event programming experience.
  • Commercial driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree gained through a four-year college/university academic program or specialized technical training of equivalent length.
  • Specific knowledge and skills related to program area.
  • Spanish/English bilingual skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, Recreation software (RecTrac) and Connect2Concepts
  • Supervisory experience in previous positions.
  •  

Essential Functions:

Program Management

  • Create, implement, and coordinate a variety of Recreation programs and special events.
  • Work directly with the Communications and Engagement Department to ensure marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.
  • Foster and develop principled relationships with community partners and organizations to grow and market current and future programs.
  • Collaborate with Operations staff to ensure they have the proper program information.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors, instructors and other external groups.
  • Transportation of children is required for some Recreation Coordinators. 
  • Comply with State of Colorado licensing requirements when necessary. 

Personnel Management

  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate part-time staff. 
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Utilize When2Work scheduling software to schedule employees.
  • Develop quality training programs for volunteers.
  • Develop and mentor volunteers and staff to ensure quality instruction and leadership.

Facility and Risk Management 

  • Ensure facilities are safe and conduct regular inspections. 
  • Work with maintenance staff to ensure all preventative maintenance occurs on a regular basis.
  • Oversee pro shop and concession sales. 
  • Maintain staff certification records to ensure patron safety including CPR, First Aid, AED Training, and various required certifications. 
  • Review and maintain online and in-person trainings through the City of Greeley Training Courses. 

Fiscal Management and Assessment

  • Responsible for preparation and administration of the program area budget and related funds, and the development of reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division financial goals.
  • Track and order supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor the hourly employee labor budget.
  • Administer surveys and conduct focus groups to gauge participant satisfactions level, gain constructive feedback and foster ideas for new programs and special events.

Customer Service and Engagement

  • Deliver prompt and professional solutions to both external and internal customers through face-to-face, phone, and email interactions. 
  • Provide quality service through the development of relationships with facility users, program participants, community members, City employees, and numerous partner organizations.

Technology

  • Learn to use and effectively operate recreation management software, RecTrac, for program operations including account management, pass sales, program registrations, point-of-sale service, and other management functions.
  • Update and monitor Recreation website and social media outlets. 
  • The Recreation Coordinator II position is also responsible for other duties as assigned.

  • Write and deliver performance appraisals. 
  • Select and approve promotions and transfers. 
  • Make salary recommendations. 
  • Approve terminations.
  • Organize and delegate assignments to team members
  • Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees
  • Evaluate employee performance and goal setting
  • Hold employees accountable for assigned task and goals
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback and training opportunities
  • Provide training opportunities with a focus on employee development
  • Resolve conflicts and complaints
  • Analyzing information and processes and develop more effective or efficient processes
  • Establishing and achieving business and financial objectives
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work Environment

  • Marginal to moderate hazards that are typically predictable or well protected against
  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact
  • Required to work weekdays, nights, weekends, evenings and some holidays
  • Work is performed in various environments both indoors and outside
  • Work can be in adverse weather or extremely hot conditions and may be exposed to dust, fumes and chemicals.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate to considerable physical effort that includes working from ladders in awkward positions. Frequent use of light or medium weight objects (e.g., 25-50 lbs) and use of medium weight tools. 
  • Vision to perform physical activities, read computer keyboards, reference books and other written documents.
  • Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as equipment repair, operate computer keyboards, drive and operate motor vehicles, and operate other office equipment and complete paperwork.
