Green Bay Metro Transit is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern to join our team for a meaningful, hands-on experience in public transportation. This role focuses on conducting on-board passenger surveys to gather socio-economic and demographic data. The information collected will support our Title VI equity analysis and be a key component of the department’s ongoing efforts to ensure fair access to public transportation services.
Rate of pay: $12.99 per hour
Flexible schedule within Transit’s hours of operation (Monday-Friday, 5:15 a.m.-6:45 p.m. and Saturdays, 7:15 a.m.-1:45 p.m.), 15-30 hours per week.
The internship is anticipated to last approximately 3-months, or until the project work has been completed.

- Surveys riders to obtain information such as demographics, fare type, route usage, etc. directly from the public. Green Bay Metro is required to conduct analysis, as required by Title VI (FTA Circular 4702.1B Chapter IV. 7), to evaluate proposed service and fare changes for equity.
- Utilizes the transit system, with guidance from the Mobility Coordinator and Operations Supervisor, to gather information from riders en route.
- Collects data and compiles information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled in college or technical college with a minimum of 9 credits and pursuing a degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Political Science, Public Administration, or closely related field.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately.
- Skill and ability to organize work and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to learn quickly and perform tasks accurately.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data, including the ability to download and utilize US Census related data.
- Ability to utilize a computer and the required software to create tables, charts and other graphics.
- Ability to work the required hours of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to perform the following activities:
- Ability to ride a public transit vehicle for several hours at a time with frequent stops and starts in various climates.
- Lifting up to 10 – 20 pounds.
- Carrying up to 10 – 20 pounds.
- Frequent standing and sitting.
- Ability to focus on projects for long periods of time.
- Ability to reach, stoop and lift.
