Now accepting applications from citizens living in Green River, WY who have previously stopped by Fire Station #2 (500 Shoshone) to speak with one of both of the Assistant Fire Chiefs.Under general supervision, volunteer firefighters serve the community by responding to a wide variety of situations, ranging from emergencies that immediately threaten life or property to routine citizen requests for information and assistance. Duties will generally fall into the following categories: fire suppression, emergency medical aid or rescue, hazardous material response, training, public education, station and equipment operation and maintenance. Note: These positions are paid a flat rate per call and not an hourly rate or by any other means.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Reports to the Fire Chief or their delegate – an Assistant Fire Chief, Captain or Lieutenant.No routine supervision is exercised; may be assigned some supervisory duties depending on training and certifications.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of: Modern fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue principles, and techniques, including operation and maintenance of fire apparatus, equipment, tools and other devices.Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols.Fire protection systems, evacuation considerations, and building construction regulations related to fire safety.Mechanical, chemical, and related characteristics of a wide variety of flammable and explosive materials and objects.Incident command theory.English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.Principles and procedures of recordkeeping.Principles and practices used in dealing with the public.Safe driving principles and practices.Skill to: Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment, fire engines, and fire rescue equipment safely.Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-volunteers, chiefs, supervisors, staff and the general public; to work effectively as a team member.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions using the English language.Maintain physical conditioning necessary to perform efficiently in emergency situations; meet medical and physical agility standards as established.Respond to inquiries from the public.Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies.Analyze and cope with a variety of emergency situations, including confrontation, calmly but effectively and to react quickly to secure accurate and precise information on location, extent and nature of fires and emergency aid.Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situation and needs.
