Creative Kids Camp - Counselor (Seasonal)
COUNSELOR APPLICANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OLD OR A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE AS OF JUNE 20, 2023.
Camp Format:
- Creative Kids Camp is an arts-based summer day camp at the historic Greenbelt Community Center, a New Deal landmark. Campers ages 6-12 rotate through our Marvelous Mix classes in visual art, music, dance, drama and circus skills, as well as outdoor recess play and indoor quiet time. Campers also participate daily in an elective Afternoon Art Adventure class that meets throughout the two-week camp session. At the end of every two-week session, the camp presents two musical theater performances in the Community Center auditorium, and hosts a reception showcasing the campers' artworks after the second performance.
Job Requirements:
- Enthusiastic participation with the campers in all camp activities is a job requirement of the camp counselor position. Camp counselors maintain a rigorous schedule, accompanying and helping to mentor a group of campers throughout the busy camp day. Counselors who have training and experience that align with the content of a particular Afternoon Art Adventures class will be assigned accordingly when possible. Interested counselors may be called upon to perform in the camp show.

- Greenbelt Recreation supports people with and without disabilities participating in activities together. We help provide social, physical, educational, and cultural development for individuals of all abilities. Greenbelt summer camps offer extra support when needed to facilitate the full participation of individuals with disabilities, which may include but are not limited to: autism spectrum, physical disabilities, learning or cognitive disabilities, and behavioral disabilities. Counselors who are interested in providing personalized support for individual campers within a group activity setting may be invited to serve as “inclusion” counselors for one or more sessions. Training is provided.
Compensation:
- Starting pay for camp counselors (both general and inclusion) is $15.00/hour.
Work Schedule:
- Counselors are expected to work Monday-Friday (except July 4), 8:30am-3:30pm, from Monday, June 23 through Friday, August 15. On Wednesday afternoons, we hold a staff meeting that extends the workday by about 45 minutes, and on the second Wednesday of each camp sessions, we need counselors to stay later to set up the auditorium for dress rehearsals and the shows.
- Additional work hours are available for counselors who want to work an extended day by also working either Before Care (7:30am-8:30am) or After Care (until 6:00pm).
Camp Session Dates:
Session One: June 23 – July 3 (no camp July 4)
Session Two: July 7 – July 18
Session Three: July 21 – August 1
Session Four: August 4 – August 15
