Thank you for considering a roster position with the City of Greensboro! These positions are an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to our community. Please review the details below to ensure you understand the nature of roster employment:

  • Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
  • Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.  
  • Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

While roster positions do not include benefits, they are often a pathway to full-time, benefited employment with the City. Many of our current full-time employees started in roster positions, and we encourage you to explore this opportunity as a potential first step in your career with us.

About the Role:
As a Customer Service Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for customers at the Water Resources reception desk, helping them with inquiries, directing them to the appropriate personnel, and ensuring smooth operations using tools like the Cisco telephone system and Qminder queuing system. Your role will be crucial in providing accurate information, initiating service requests, and supporting the community with professionalism and care.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Customer Interaction: Handle phone calls and walk-in inquiries, directing customers to the appropriate resources or personnel.
  • Queue Management: Utilize the Qminder system to register and manage customer queues; perform manual input when needed.
  • Service Requests: Initiate customer service requests and provide information about Water Resources services, billing, and activities.
  • Data Accuracy: Input and maintain customer information in the Customer Information System (enQuesta) to ensure correct billing for newly activated accounts.
  • Issue Resolution: Address inquiries about high water bills, payments, payment plans, deposit refunds, and other sensitive matters with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Mail Management: Receive and dispatch departmental mail; research and resolve issues with undeliverable bills.
  • Special Projects: Assist the Water Customer Service Supervisor with assigned tasks and projects.

This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)Minimum Requirements: 
  • High School diploma/GED
    •  "OR" an equivalency of 3-5 years of experience in customer service 
  • Experience using multi-line telephone, copier, fax, printer, calculator 
  • Data entry experience in a fast paced work environment 
  • Strong customer service experience with training in communication (active listening, conflict resolution)

An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
 
  • Experience working in an office environment
  • .Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (spoken and written at fluent level) 
  • Local government experience 
  • Experience with enQuesta Billing and Customer Information System or related billing systems 
  • Experience working in a Public Utility  

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday; 8 am to 5 pm
