About the RoleThe HVAC Crew Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to assist the HVAC/Plumbing Mechanical Trades supervisor by coordinating the construction and maintenance activities for the HVAC/Mechanical section within the Facilities Division. This position reports to the HVAC/Plumbing Mechanical Trades Supervisor and will assume partial duties of the HVAC/Plumbing Mechanical Trades Supervisor in their absence. The HVAC Crew Coordinator is accountable for the planning, estimating, organizing and reporting of multiple projects assigned to the HVAC/mechanical work units, crews, and teams. This position will oversee and assist with HVAC related installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair work on equipment. The person in this position will oversee the city's BAS (Building Automation Systems) to ensure all City facilities HVAC systems are operating at optimum performance levels and will work with outside vendors to install and upgrade existing BAS controls, and troubleshoot issues with the operating systems. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to: using the EAM work order system to assure quality, efficiency, and timely completion; monitoring of short term and long term projects; coordination with other city forces, outside contractors, utilities, and other agencies; assuring safe work practices are followed; intermediate and final inspections of work, preparing cost estimates and tracking of actual costs; evaluation of work methods, materials; and preparing work management records. The employee in this position will evaluate and respond to customer concerns in a timely manner. The employee must have and maintain required certifications and have knowledge of practices and procedures used for the construction and maintenance of HVAC systems, BAS, belt and chain driven equipment, motors, pumps, automated gates, work hazards, and safety procedures. Knowledge of the latest codes and procedures related to the HVAC field and compliance with Occupational Safety Health Administration safety policies and procedures is essential. This person must be able to oversee and communicate effectively with teams, supervisors, and customers. A NC State H-1, H-2 or H-3 HVAC license is required for this position or must be obtained within 18 months of employment in order to remain in the position. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
- High School Diploma/GED
- 4 years of hands-on experience in HVAC-related expereince coordinating and assisting with HVAC-related construction and maintenance activities including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work of HVAC/mechanical, Building Automation Systems and/or including boiler systems or an Associate’s Degree with 2 years of related experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- NC State H-1, H-2, or H-3 HVAC license, or ability to obtain within 18 months
- Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) recovery license
- Prior supervisory experience
- Experience using MS Office products
- Experience with an EAM work order system or similar system
- Associate’s Degree in Architecture, HVAC, or Construction Technology
- Experience working with building automation systems (e.g., Trane Tracer, Johnson Controls)
- Technical HVAC Diploma or Apprenticeship
