The City of Greensboro's Solid Waste and Recycling Department is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Solid Waste Operator (Residential). Compensation and Benefits:
The Full Salary Range for this position is $33,097.00 - $54,314.00 Annually Annually. The Hiring Range is $41,781-$45,190 Annually depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package. Work Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position operates on a 40-hour work schedule, which may require flexibility during holiday weeks or for emergency services, potentially including Wednesdays, weekends, or holidays. About the Role:
As a Solid Waste Operator, you will be responsible for the manual collection of yard waste, bulk items, and uncontained materials. This role involves operating a rear-loading solid waste collection truck and performing tasks that require heavy manual labor, including frequent walking, bending, lifting, and carrying. You will work outside in all weather conditions and must demonstrate strong team-oriented work ethics with a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and drive a rear-loading solid waste collection truck.
- Service refuse, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste customers safely and efficiently.
- Follow written and heuristically prepared routes, use two-way radios, and communicate effectively.
- Complete daily survey and vehicle inspection forms.
- Maintain a positive perspective and willingness to assist wherever needed.
- Cross-train in other duties within Special Services Operations as required.
What You Bring:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1-3 years of experience operating vehicles that require a commercial driver's license or No High School Diploma/GED and 5-7 years of experience operating vehicles that require a commercial driver’s license
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License,
- Experience in solid waste collection (e.g., refuse, recycling)
