Job Description
Performs semiskilled manual labor for collecting and disposing of solid waste and yard waste. Work as part of a crew in loading and unloading refuse over an established route. Responsible for the satisfactory performance of manual laboring tasks in collecting refuse and must adhere to all traffic laws, ordinances, and the City of Reidsville Rules and Regulations.

Job Duties
- Assemble, repair and clean solid waste containers.
- Assures the yards are clear of refuse from containers.
- Separates the hazardous or banned materials from the landfill.
- Ensures compliance with all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Provides information within the area of assignment; responds to customer complaints and issues, requests for service, and inquiries about solid waste collection service from the general public.
- Cleans up oil spills appropriately.
- Responsible for transferring solid waste container to truck for dumping.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to follow required safety rules, and regulations as well as apply applicable laws, codes and regulations.
- Ability to operate assigned vehicle equipment; read and understand route maps/tools and street signs.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying weather conditions as well as work independently and dependably in all types of weather.
- Knowledge of local and state traffic laws.
- Successful completion of a background check, pre-employment drug screen and physical. EOE

- Knowledge of the hazards, procedures and regulations in solid waste collection.
- Knowledge of the ordinances and rules involved in collection of solid and yard waste.
- Knowledge of the current trends and development related to municipal solid waste management and operations.
Physical Demands
Work in this class is described as heavy, frequently requiring physical exertion lifting 50 pounds or less, constantly to complete tasks. An employee must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing. An employee must possess the visual acuity to operate lifting mechanisms on the truck. The employee is subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, vibration, oils, noise, exposure to heat and chemicals.
